“Magical Cocktail Experience” coming to London
New immersive cocktail pop-up combines interactive wand tech and molecular mixology to brew drinkable potions
17 November 2017 (London)- The Cauldron has announced an immersive cocktail experience in Central London where guests attend a class on brewing magical potions using interactive magic wands and molecular mixology. The first month of tickets for the experience, which opens in March, are now available for purchase at thecauldron.io, with holiday gift wrapping options available.
The “Magical Cocktail Experience” is a one hour and forty-five minute ticketed class that centers on the idea of using science and technology to bring concepts from fantasy novels and magical lore to life. Upon arrival, guests descend the stairs to receive a robe and magic wand, which they use to pour their own pint of The Cauldron’s bespoke beer, made in collaboration with London’s Fourpure Brewing Co. Guests are then led to their interactive workstation, which is equipped with a cauldron and instructions book, and collect fresh and bottled potion-making ingredients and materials from the brick-vaulted storerooms. Students chop, grind, and prepare ingredients and follow instructions to brew two drinkable potions. Classes include all materials and supplies, and are £29.99 per ticket.
Patrons who buy their tickets before December 1st will have the chance to win one of the 15 spots in The Cauldron & Fourpure’s focus group, which will take place in mid-December at Fourpure’s brewery in Bermondsey, and which will guide the direction of the collaboration beer served in The Cauldron’s immersion experience. The focus group will explore including the ingredients traditionally used in magical history and witchcraft in the brewing process.
Guests who order their tickets before December 15th can opt to have their purchase gift wrapped and ready for the holidays for an additional cost. Gift wrapping includes an invitation letter sealed with wax, printed tickets, a corked vial, and a bookmark.
The Cauldron began as a Kickstarter project and is the brainchild of Matthew Cortland, a technologist and former reading teacher, and David Duckworth, a molecular mixologist and cocktail experience designer. “We have the chance to let people feel like the fantasy worlds that they have been reading about since childhood are real,” remarked Cortland. “It’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s a chance to create something special that brings happiness to so many people. It’s going to be fun,” added Duckworth.
Guests who visit The Cauldron’s classes are encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite childhood book, which will be donated to a reading classroom in need. The Cauldron Magical Pub & Inn launches on Kickstarter
New crowdfunding project brings magic of books to life using technology and design
26 June 2017 (London)- A magical pub and tech lab has launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to bring magic from fantasy books to life with technology, design, and the Internet of Things. The Cauldron Magical Pub & Inn is looking to raise $500,000 and involve a generation of fans in the ideation, design, and construction of the pub, which will be located in London. It’s Kickstarter project will conclude on July 25th at 8am EST.
The Cauldron is the brainchild of Matthew Cortland, a former reading teacher turned designer and technology entrepreneur. Cortland remarked that, “The Cauldron is our chance to grant the wish of every fantasy fan: magic is real and you can be part of it. Please support this project.”
Popular backer rewards include a moving photo hanging in the pub that can be added to and updated over time (similar to a Snapchat story), a name inscription within the pub, access to the pub’s secret bar, a limited-edition pint glass, laptop sticker, and bookmark. Premium incentives include inventing a science-based magical cocktail, naming a snug, and renting the pub for an evening. Tickets are available for the pub’s grand opening and holiday feasts. All rewards include free shipping and gift-wrapping materials, and will ship for the 2017 Holiday Season.
The Cauldron will also host Magical Hackathons in cities around the world to give fans an opportunity to invent and test the magical elements used in the pub. Business sponsorships available. Pub patrons will also be encouraged to bring a copy of their favourite book, which will be donated to a reading classroom in need through a charitable organization.
